Artists - those who have destroyed their own masterpieces have harmed themselves

Many artists, whether painters, musicians, poets, novelists or playwrights, have destroyed some of their works in fits of discouragement, even though these may have been of great merit! That is a pity, because in doing so they harmed themselves and deprived the whole world of their masterpieces as well. The reason for their action is that they remained too focused on themselves, on their own difficulties and problems. Not knowing how to extricate themselves from the limits of their ego, they failed to connect with all that is good and beautiful in people and in nature. Only this attitude could have protected them and prevented them from turning against their works in a fit of dissatisfaction. Truly spiritual people are not satisfied with themselves, but they find happiness in the works of God and marvel at those who serve Him and in this way, they remedy the sorrow caused by their own imperfections.*
