Master - in the spiritual life he is the father; he maintains unity
Symbolically, the father represents the head of a family, and that is why everything must revolve around him. He is the one responsible for keeping the family together. If the members of a family are not linked to the head and in harmony with it, or if the head leaves or is not up to the task, everything falls apart and the family unravels. The same is true in a country: if the head does not fulfil its part correctly or disappears, chaos ensues. Even bandits, even animals understand this and look for a head to be their leader. This being so, how is it that intelligent people have not understood that in the spiritual life too, a head, a Master, is necessary, indispensable in fact? Whether this Master be alive or dead, he is the head that maintains the unity of their inner life.
