Work - rely on nothing else

You must rely on nothing and no one – not on your family, or on your friends, or on your Master, not even on the Lord, yes, not even on the Lord – but only on your work. Why? Because it is solely due to your work that you will later be able to rely on the whole universe. When farmers have sown their field, they can count on the sun, the rain and the dew, for these will play their part in the growth of the seeds. But if they have sown nothing, it is pointless counting on anything at all, as pointless as trying to lean on empty space. Then whose fault is it, if what they expect does not happen? Even the Lord would rather we didn’t rely too much on him. This is what Jesus also said, in different words, in the Gospels: ‘Strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.’ So, it is up to us to do something first, to set the processes in motion that will allow us to obtain what we wish, to reach the goal we set ourselves.
