We must reach a level of consciousness where we actually feel that we are part of the Lord, that we do not exist outside of him. In reality, no one can exist outside the Lord. He created us, and he nourishes us, gives us life. So what independence do we have? No creature is independent. Those who cut the link with the Lord to be independent actually cut the link with the Source of life; they become dust. Therefore, say to yourself, 'I do not exist; only he, the Lord, exists, who, through me, accepts to feel like me, small, weak, sickly. But I do not exist as a separate being.' And if you meditate in this way for years, so that you may feel you are nothing but a part of the Lord, you will gradually become one with him, and say as Jesus said, 'My Father and I are one.'
