Silence frightens some people because they experience it as …

Silence frightens some people because they experience it as inertia, stagnation, a desert, a void. In fact, there are different kinds of silence. Generally speaking, we can say there are two sorts: - the silence of death and the silence of the superior life. It is this silence of the superior life that we must love and cultivate within ourselves. This silence does not have to do with inertia, but with an intense work that is realised in the midst of perfect harmony. It is neither a void nor an absence, but a fulfilment comparable to the experience of two people united by a great love: they live something so profound that they cannot express it with gestures or words. Yes, true silence is the expression of a presence, the divine presence.
