A spiritual master has meditated a very long time on the love of God and the best way of expressing it. When he puts his faith in human beings, therefore, it is not because he needs them or hopes to benefit personally from them. By putting his faith in them he throws them a line and gives them a chance, for we never know, it is always possible for their divine nature to find a way of expressing itself. But of course the master must be very strong, because when he uses this method he has to expect everything, the best as well as the worst. When you yourself become sufficiently strong, you will be able to extend your faith to all beings, without fear that you will suffer or be shattered if they fail to live up to this faith. In the meantime, you must study and practise!
