The intellect is situated between spirit and matter. So, …

The intellect is situated between spirit and matter. So, when we see matter impeding, blocking the divine impulses of spirit, our intellect can intervene to restore the spirit’s force and open doors for it. The spirit is always pushing from the inside, but we are not always aware of it. Why? Because we do not call on the intellect. It is the intellect that decides and tells us whether we are facilitating the work of the spirit within us or else opposing it by giving matter greater possibilities. An enlightened mind is an extremely useful instrument; it discerns and judges impeccably. Contrary to what some people imagine, the great spiritual masters do not reject the intellect, for they know that human beings have the capacity to use it to determine how best to act. They even insist that human beings be aware of the role the intellect has to play in supporting the work of the spirit on matter.
