Parents provide for their children’s physical needs and …

Parents provide for their children’s physical needs and education, and they imagine that’s enough. Well, no, it’s not, and this illusion can only provoke conflicts between the generations. Why? Because later, when the children are well educated, learned even, and influenced by some ideology or another, they will confront their parents and discuss things their parents know nothing about. All they know is that their children have become strangers to them and sometimes even enemies. So there you have the poor parents – who often went to great lengths to educate their children – bewildered at the way their offspring use their education to treat them with contempt and argue all the more forcefully with them. More and more, these days, you meet such ungrateful, disrespectful children. But whose fault is it? When their parents raised them, why did they not consider any values higher than the faculties of the intellect? Why did they, themselves, not work to acquire light and virtues, so that their children, in spite of all their knowledge, would always feel respect for them?
