Certain thinkers who have reflected on the question of faith say that a little knowledge leads us away from God, and more knowledge leads us back to him. It is true, but to interpret this correctly, you must understand that we are talking about a different kind of knowledge. A little more knowledge of biology, chemistry or astrophysics will not only fail to bring you closer to God, it may even increase your uncertainty by appearing to contradict certain religious dogma. The knowledge that faith is based on is of a different nature. It is knowledge about you yourself. And by ‘you’ I mean your deepest self, in all its richness and possibilities: your soul and spirit.
