In the same way that a container can never be separated …

In the same way that a container can never be separated from its contents, matter cannot be dissociated from the spirit. Matter is the form that contains, confines, and compresses the spirit. An atomic explosion, for example, is actually the spirit erupting from the form which imprisons it, in order to manifest as light, warmth, and fire. The explosion is possible only because the spirit is present in matter as a compressed energy; matter alone can do nothing, but simply serves as a support, a recipient. That is why all those who marvel at the power of matter are ignorant: they do not realise that the forces which are released from it are those of the spirit. Confined in matter only temporarily to prevent their dispersal, these forces await the moment when they can reveal themselves. The proof is that, once liberated, these forces can no longer be recovered; when the spirit has escaped, it is impossible to capture it again, because it returns to the regions from which it came. As for the matter that contained it, nothing remains: it has been pulverised by the spirit.
