Matter is so rich and diverse, it’s natural we should be attracted and fascinated by it. There are so many things to desire and possess! And that’s where the situation gets complicated. You love the idea of acquiring this or that object. But the moment you possess it, this object no longer delights you so much. You would almost have to lose it for it to become important to you again. Human beings are made that way: they have wishes and desires, they need to possess things, but as soon as they acquire something they lose interest in it, and their desire is transferred to another object, and then another… This is why those who possess the means to acquire many things must be careful, for nothing will ever fulfil them, and they will be caught up in a spiral that’s dangerous both for themselves and for others who will be sacrificed to their greed. Matter is an abyss, and this abyss swallows up all those who set out to conquer matter without having first established sound links with the spiritual world.
