The history of religion shows that human beings have rarely understood how much importance to give respectively to the body and the spirit. For some, only the spirit mattered, and they neglected their body to such an extent that they wasted away. But if the body is so vile and only the spirit matters, why do humans come down to earth? They should have stayed on high, in the etheric regions of space. The fact that they come down to incarnate on earth means that they have work to do here with their body. The mission of the spirit is to assume a physical body and come down to work on the earth to impregnate it with its qualities so that the earth may be transformed into a magnificent garden where the Lord and his angels will come to walk. When Jesus said, ‘Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven’, he too was praying for the splendour of the spirit to descend into matter.
