People say, ‘I’m sincere; I always say what I think, …

People say, ‘I’m sincere; I always say what I think, especially to my friends’, and it’s true: they destroy everything in their path. Sincerity is certainly a quality, but there’s not much to be proud of in this kind of sincerity. Have they even asked themselves whether what they’re thinking is right? No, and, besides, why would they? Hasn’t humanity fought hard for the right to freedom of thought? Granted, freedom of thought is a precious thing… providing we know what thought really is. What many people call ‘thinking’ is nothing but their mind’s restless thoughts apropos of everything they like or dislike. But they’re wrong. True thought is not linked to our likes or dislikes; it doesn’t even originate on the mental plane, with the intellect, but on the causal plane. It presupposes knowledge of the great cosmic laws. The first idea that enters your head is not a thought, and many of those who claim they say what they think should understand that, if they were truly capable of thought, they would keep quiet, or they would speak only after they had questioned the validity of their opinion.
