Because they are not forced to serve a tyrant, because they …

Because they are not forced to serve a tyrant, because they are not imprisoned or enslaved, people think they are free. Yes, but inwardly just how free are they? Often they are like animals tied to a stake by several metres of rope: because the rope allows them a little movement, they imagine themselves to be free. But when they want to go further, they find it impossible. Of course, those whose only ambition is to satisfy their material appetites or base desires do not feel limited, but if one day they want to attain realms that are more subtle, more spiritual, they will not be able to, and they will be forced to admit how enslaved and powerless they are. We are truly free only when we are not restrained by any tie, physical or, most importantly, psychic.
