When you eat with your family, with friends or even alone, …

When you eat with your family, with friends or even alone, are you careful to avoid making a noise with all the things you use? You’re thinking, ‘Why is he asking this?’ Because it’s important. If you watch your gestures while you’re moving spoons, forks, knives, plates, dishes, glasses, bottles and so on, you will develop qualities of attention, precision and foresight, and these will stand you in good stead throughout your life. So begin by practising self-control when you carry out simple activities like this, for otherwise you will continue to make mistakes all your life: you will bump into people or objects and say tactless things which will lose you a friendship or close doors to you. Use mealtimes to learn vigilance and mastery of your gestures: that is how you will awaken faculties within yourself that will enable you to deal with many difficult situations.
