Images, holy - how to regard them

The worship of saints is in itself a good thing; no one can be blamed for worshipping statues, icons or relics, or for praying and kneeling before them. But people should be fully aware of what these images and relics actually represent. If you pray before an image, it is not the image itself that will help and protect you: it will only put you in touch with the entity it represents. This in itself is a lot, as many things are then possible, but you must still be aware that the image or object is only a form. In religion, forms are useful, necessary even, but you must not stop there. Always look for the principle beyond the form, and link in to it to acquire all its qualities. This is the only way your prayers will be answered.
