The Eucharist and marriage are two sacraments which …

The Eucharist and marriage are two sacraments which celebrate the union of the masculine and feminine principles, thanks to which life throughout creation perpetuates itself. The difference between the two is that marriage primarily concerns the physical plane, our social life, whereas the Eucharist, or communion with the body and blood of Christ represented by bread and wine, concerns the spiritual plane and our inner life. The symbolism is the same, however, and we find these sacraments at the beginning and end of Jesus' mission on earth. According to the Gospel of Saint John, Jesus performed his first miracle at Cana in Galilee where he had been invited to a wedding: he changed water into wine. That he attended a wedding and there performed his first miracle means that Jesus' idea of this ceremony was very different from that of most people. And the sacrament of the Eucharist was the last act Jesus performed before his death. Is it not clear then that all of Jesus' teaching rests on the knowledge of these two principles?
