In the exercise of their responsibilities – whether family, social, professional or political – it is very important for people to try and find a higher perspective inside themselves, one that will allow them to control all aspects of the problems they have to resolve. In that way, the decisions they make will be the fairest ones for everyone involved. You will say, ‘But you cannot be sure these decisions will be accepted. Most people are only interested in defending their own selfish interests, and it’s not easy to persuade them to recognize the interests of others.’ That’s true, but even if some of your fine analysis and conclusions are not accepted, that’s no reason to abandon your efforts. Once you have managed to raise yourself up to this higher point of view, there will be other occasions in life where you can make this viewpoint triumph. None of the efforts you make to advance along the path of lucidity and disinterestedness are ever wasted.
