When you have a spiritual ideal but feel you cannot live up …

When you have a spiritual ideal but feel you cannot live up to it, you must tell yourself in no uncertain terms that this is no reason to abandon your ideal. If your search is sincere, no matter what your difficulties, you must never give up and aim for something easier or more agreeable. If at some point you need to relax your efforts, at least keep the right direction in sight. Do not allow this temporary fatigue or weakness to be an excuse for changing course. Your fatigue is forgivable, and when you are tired you should rest, but without abandoning your path. It is not necessary to take a different route in order to rest. Nothing is more dangerous than abandoning your ideal on the pretext that you cannot always live up to it.
