In exceptional cases, parents may slap or smack their child; it can’t do any harm. Except that, if they do, they must take care that their face doesn’t express any negative feeling at that moment, because the child will quickly forget the slap or the smack but will never forget an angry look. So, be careful! When a mother has to correct her child, she should remain in control of herself and show the child that it hurts her having to correct him in this way. She should say to him, ‘You see, I don’t want to slap you, but you force me to, because you have behaved badly.’ And then, go ahead… smack him! Then, the child feels that it’s his fault that his mother is forced to act as she does. He reflects on it and begins to understand there are laws that he mustn’t break, and gradually this produces a great improvement in him.
