You would like to be loved, and you are unhappy because you …

You would like to be loved, and you are unhappy because you notice people do not love you – or not enough! But try to understand that this attitude will make you even unhappier. How can you expect others to love someone who walks about with a long face, giving other people reproachful looks as though they were responsible for your unhappiness? Let’s suppose it’s true: no one loves you. I agree, it’s certainly a great misfortune not to be loved. But the greatest unhappiness lies with you yourself being unable to love. Those with no love for others sign their own death warrant. So then, what prevents you, yourself, from loving? You are free. You cannot force others to love you; that’s up to them, not you, but the decision to love depends only on you. Try to make the first gesture towards others. Do not wait for others to always make the first move because you believe you deserve their love. Love, and you will be happy. And when they sense the happiness you get from loving, a happiness that manifests as light and warmth, you will see that others will also begin to love you.
