How can people ever apply psychology and understand one …

How can people ever apply psychology and understand one another when they remain so self-centred? It’s as if they were blinded by the veil of their selfish, personal preoccupations; these are what prevent them from perceiving what is going on in the hearts and minds of those around them, even of their friends and family. They say they love them… Yes, but because of this veil, they fail to see them as they truly are so that they are astonished at times at the changes they’ll suddenly notice in their wife or husband, their children and their friends. Only when others leave them or commit some desperate act do they finally understand. Until then they hear nothing and see nothing. Only those who have mastered their lower self and become capable of forgetting their own interests can really know and understand others.
