For many Christians, religion amounts to a series of …

For many Christians, religion amounts to a series of articles of faith which bear no relation to their daily experience. They passively accept dogmas they have been inculcated with and don’t know what to do with, and since they don’t know what to do with them they continue to live like any other non-believer. This is how religion has ended up having little in common with true faith; only beliefs remain, and these will save no one. These people are Christians, of course, but if they won’t work or make efforts or experiment, what result can they hope for? And yet we are told in the Gospels that faith can move mountains. But as long as believers are content to repeat often unintelligible formulas, gestures and rituals, their faith will not move mountains or work any miracles. And when I speak of miracles, it’s not about healing the sick or raising the dead, but about transforming oneself, bringing oneself back to life.
