When you meditate on holy images or sacred symbols, you attain a certain inner state that puts you in contact with entities of the invisible world. Magic, or natural magic as it’s traditionally known, is based on the principle that relationships can be established between objects on the physical plane and beings of the spiritual world. This is where it differs from divine magic, theurgy, which works exclusively with names and numbers or, in other words, with principles. Physical props are not necessary for contacting heavenly entities; initiates no longer need them. But it is a long apprenticeship. We begin by touching things, by tasting them; then we can breathe them, hear them and see them. Only at the end do we manage to feel and understand them. Feeling and understanding allow us to enter the spiritual world.
