The veil of Isis, as it is traditionally known, represents …

The veil of Isis, as it is traditionally known, represents the mysteries of living nature which initiates alone can penetrate. And because human beings are part of nature, they too are enveloped in a veil, which is why it is so difficult for them to know themselves and to know others. If they are to have true knowledge, they are required to rise to the sublime regions of the spirit. When they cease to see themselves and others through the distorting glass of their opaque bodies, they will at last be able to know themselves as they exist in the sublime regions. Buried in these layers of matter lives a spirit, a spark, an indescribable, all-knowing, all-powerful being. Those who through asceticism, prayer and sacrifice obey the demands of the spirit see Isis appear before them, unveiled.
