When you meet someone who inspires in you a great desire to …
When you meet someone who inspires in you a great desire to live and to do good, when your conversation with that person fills you with hope and courage, know that this is infinitely more precious than any intellectual knowledge you might acquire, which more often than not leaves you shrivelled and exhausted. It is thus far more preferable to live every day in the company of those who energize you, who inspire in you a will to action and a love for what you are doing, than with those who are as erudite as encyclopaedias but are incapable of awakening fervour and enthusiasm in you. You will say, ‘But after all, we must acquire some knowledge in life!' Yes, of course, but you will more easily acquire this knowledge when you are well disposed, when you are filled with love, joy, and enthusiasm.
