The disciple who follows a master must not fix on his master’s person. If he is absorbed in the contemplation of his master’s face, it is because this physical form and these features speak to him of the divine world; they put him in contact with sublime regions and awaken memories in him of the beauty and purity of a distant past. An initiate expresses and reveals the world of spirit through the emanations of his physical appearance. When a disciple meets a master it is precisely in this same direction that he must work, because this is the work that will stimulate, fortify and enrich him.
