You tend to consider obstacles, ordeals and disappointments …

You tend to consider obstacles, ordeals and disappointments as enemies which have no right to attack you. Well, you are mistaken; they do have the right. So you must accept their attacks, knowing that, even if you feel debilitated and discouraged for a time, many things will fare better afterwards. Yes, this is true: after a moment of weakness in which you lose all courage, you find you have extraordinary energy once again. Where did this energy come from? It was your discouragement that brought it to you. Of course you must be prudent and see to it that this discouragement does not overpower you, that it does not drag you along in a torrent and eventually drown you. Accept it as something inevitable, and at the same time keep a close watch on yourself. Yes, this is another exercise for you. From now on, instead of asking to be spared discouragement, ask to fully understand this state, which brings you riches and extraordinary treasures.
