It is the astral region (the heart, feelings) which most often dictates human behaviour, even though the mental region (the intellect, thoughts) is superior to it and has the power to dominate it. Notice how people put their intelligence at the beck and call of their passions and appetites; the knowledge, technology and cultural wealth at their disposal often serve only to satisfy all that is darkest in them. When you put your heart in service of the intellect, and even better, when you put your intellect in service of the spirit and soul, you are on the road to perfection. For perfection is the submission of our physical, astral and mental bodies – the lower trinity which thinks, feels and acts to satisfy our interests alone – to the higher trinity, which also thinks feels and acts, but does so in service of the divine principle within us.
