Think carefully before making a promise, for a promise must …

Think carefully before making a promise, for a promise must always be kept. Even the Lord cannot free you from it. It’s up to you, before you make a promise, to know whether or not you will be able to keep it. You mustn’t say, ‘Oh, I might as well promise, that doesn’t commit me to anything!’ Yes, it does; you’ve committed yourself. Perhaps, on the physical plane, if you haven’t put this promise in writing, nobody will have any proof to condemn you with, but on the subtle plane your words have been recorded, and they still exist; they’re not recorded on paper, but on something even better than paper: on a talking film! A promise is never without consequence. You have been recorded. And if you prove negligent, then divine Justice, which has no need of papers as evidence of your words or actions, will judge you to be someone that cannot be counted upon.
