True poetry is the expression of the divine word, which is …

True poetry is the expression of the divine word, which is music, colour, form, and scent all in one. This is why it is so powerful. Some will claim music to be more powerful than poetry, because it has an immediate effect on its audience. Yes, but the language of music is not as clear and therefore not as educational as that of poetry because it is only made up of sounds, whereas a poem is made up of words which not only convey a melody, a rhythm, an intonation, but also colours, forms, and an architecture and, most importantly of all, it conveys a meaning. Music stirs the emotions, stimulates the will, but it does not give a clear direction. You can listen to music all your life and remain as uncertain and ignorant as always. Whereas when you read or listen to the work of a truly inspired poet, you discover a meaning through the words and you can then walk in the light.
